QASX, the ASX and the Australian LGBTQ+ Board and Executive Inclusion (ALBEI) are getting together to ring the Closing Bell of the ASX and we would like you to join us to both celebrate and continue LGBTQ+ visibility in corporate Australia.

 

This is part of a global movement with stock exchanges around the world ringing the closing bell for LGBTQ+ equality and visibility this year, including so far London, Frankfurt, Chicago, Toronto, Euronext, Cambodia and Nigeria – it’s a week of global solidarity for the LGBTQ+ community. NASDAQ had a joyous bell ringing last year for the US Association of LGBTQ+ Corporate Directors, it is not happening this year and a global display of LGBTQ+ solidarity is now more important than ever.

 

This global event is being sponsored by the United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchange initiative.

 

May 17th is known as the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) and is the anniversary of the removal of homosexuality from the World Health Organisation’s list of mental disorders in 1990.  Since then, equality for the LGBTQ+ community has moved ahead in leaps and bounds.  However, discrimination still exists and the current global environment means that these hard won gains may be under threat.
